When 2 R In Love: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 120 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Angel Monique joined me on Valentine’s Day to talk about a song so nice, Prince released it twice, “When 2 R In Love.” This Lovesexy and Black Album ballad is designed to express a sort of closeness that only two people deeply, madly, in love can understand.

Rockhard In a Funky Place: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 113 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Angel Monique and I put on our grown-up hats to discuss Prince’s raunchy ode to uncontrollable tumescence, “Rockhard In a Funky Place.” This Black Album closer is silly, bawdy, and pretty damn fun. Camille is in rare form on this track.

2 Nigs United 4 West Compton: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 112 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, I invited Jerry Bonner back to the show to get his Black Album story and to briefly talk about the mostly instrumental track, “2 Nigs United 4 West Compton.” What’s going on at the beginning of this song, and who came up with the song’s title? We break it down on this episode.

Superfunkycalifragisexy: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 111 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Todd Sanzone (@PRN4EVR on Twitter) returns to chat with me about the funky, freaky, and little twisted Black Album track, “Superfunkycalifragisexy.” Prince harkens back to familiar themes such as club culture, exploring sexuality/sexual freedom, and buckets of squirrel meat. Yeah, we don’t know who Maurice is either.

Bob George: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 110 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Snax (snaxonline.org) and I take a dark trip into the mind of a psychotic, jealous, violent, and misogynistic alter-ego on “Bob George” from the legendary Black Album. Despite the disturbing imagery presented in the song, there’s a lot of humor to lighten the mood between gunshots and threats. This R-rated cinematic track is definitely funky, so, Bob, if you’re out there, let me see you dance.

Dead On It: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 109 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics PodcastScott Woods and I get busy, too scizzy while discussing anti-rap diss track, “Dead On It” from the infamous Black Album. Prince was clearly not impressed with some of the early rap songs he heard, and I have an unconfirmed theory as to which song might have set him off.

Scott’s writing and where to purchase his book, Prince and Little Weird Black Boy Gods can be found using the link below.

Cindy C: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 108 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Rhonda Nicole and I discuss the lyrics to the sometimes flattering but often disturbing “Cindy C.” The song comes off as a plea for attention from supermodel Cindy Crawford, but it also sounds desperate and a bit cruel. Like most Prince songs, any cringeworthy lyric blows are softened by a slammin’ groove and a dope, if plagiarized, rap by Cat Glover.

Le Grind: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 107 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Micah Simpson from the Purple Underground YouTube channel is back to help me talk about this nouveau dance called “Le Grind,” which served as the opening track on Prince’s legendary Black Album aka The Funk Bible. While the Black Album has its dark moments, there is also a lot of fun as well, and this song is a funk and sweat-drenched good time.
