Let’s Go Crazy: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 50 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, I’m joined by Christy Norman from The Mountains & the Sea and Killer Fun podcasts to decipher our interpretations of Prince-isms such as “purple banana”, “de-elevator”, and “Dr. Everything’ll Be Alright” which can be found on “Let’s Go Crazy,” the opening track of the world dominating album, Purple Rain.

The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:

  • Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
  • Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
  • If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!

  1. Great episode on a very deep and pivotal song in Prince’s career. You and Christy were enjoyable and have great chemistry, as usual. To address your mentioning of the strange celebration of death inherent in the song, it probably should be noted that in some religious cultures, that’s not unusual. I don’t know much about the Seventh-Day Adventist, but some denominations highlight the reverse/opposing nature of some Bible passages like, “the meek shall inherit the earth”, “the last shall be first and the first last”, etc. And of course, let’s not forget the well-known traditional jazz funeral procession in New Orleans. Keep up the good work. I always enjoy when a new episode appears in my Stitcher app.

    1. Hi and thank you so much for listening and commenting! It does seem odd to celebrate death in some cultures, but I also knew of the celebratory aspects in other cultures as well. Your example of the jazz funeral processions in New Orleans were exactly what I was thinking about when I said it. Thanks for confirming my initial thoughts on that idea!
