Tamborine: Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast

On Episode 68 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Snax (snaxonline.org), and I talk about masturbation…as it relates to Prince’s funky metaphor filled “Tamborine” from his 7th album, Around the World In a Day. There are lines that continue to confound us (“trolley cars?”) and lines that certainly make it clear Prince is in a sexual rut (“long days, lonely nights”), but we both agree the song is hilarious and deserves discussion.

You can find more about Snax & his music  using the links below.

The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:

  • Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
  • Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
  • If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!

  1. “I don’t care for one night stands with trolley cars that juggle 17.” Any and everybody can ride a trolley car. He doesn’t want to deal with a woman who is “juggling” 17 (many) men. He just wants monogamy with his “baby” and her “tamborine”.

    1. That makes sense. We kind of tossed that idea around…certainly weren’t certain of it but its a line that perplexed us both for sure. Thank you for listening and commenting.
